A Night at the Pantry and a Reminder of the Impact of Community Service
Thursday nights are always a little busier at HONOR’s Food Pantry. Our staff work tirelessly to help visitors select fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and poultry. But one recent evening reminded me, in the simplest and sweetest way, why this work matters so much.
Meeting Alex*
As the pantry buzzed with activity, a small infant car seat by the entrance caught my eye. Outside, on the crisp October evening, a young parent stood holding a cup of coffee, with their precious child Alex bundled in a winter coat and blanket.
Alex’s parent shared that this was their third visit to the pantry—coming after work and after picking up Alex from a family member who watches them a few times a week. The parent thanked our staff for the help provided and admitted the biggest worry of all: that one day Alex might have to go without food.
I said with confidence, “We are here today. We will be here tomorrow, and we will always be here should you need anything.”
The “Best Apples” Moment
Before leaving, the parent asked one more question:
“Do you know if there are any more apples left?”
Smiling, I confirmed there were plenty.
“Good. HONOR has the best apples,” the parent said.
That simple moment filled me with pride—not just for the apples, but for the incredible impact our team has on the community every day. Our HONOR team members then welcomed Alex and the parent into the pantry, and their “shopping adventure” began.
A Reminder of the Difference We Make
Stories like this are a reminder of the tangible difference HONOR makes every day. From providing nutritious food to offering support and hope, every action—big or small—creates a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve.
Housing, hope, and a path forward for everyone is more than a tagline—it’s a promise. It’s lived through the dedication of our team and the generosity of our community.
LET’S GO!!!!
