A Shelter for Our Youth: A Friend’s House
A Friend’s House is more than just a shelter; it’s a haven for the Hudson Valley’s runaway and homeless youth aged 17 and under. Our top priority at HONOR is to ensure that these young individuals feel safe, cared for, and supported from the moment they arrive.
Safe and Welcoming Shelter
Our youth are welcomed into a safe environment where they have access to a comfortable place to sleep and nourishing meals and snacks.
Comprehensive Evaluation
After providing a secure environment, we conduct a thorough evaluation to determine any further services or assistance that may be necessary for their specific situation. HONOR collaborates closely with Safe Harbor to conduct assessments and provide crucial support for youth who may have been impacted by sex trafficking, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Education and Assessment
We understand the importance of education, which is why we ensure that our young guests can return to school. Our specially trained staff also conduct assessments to identify any additional needs.
Supportive Services
During their stay, our youth receive tutoring, counseling, and case management to help prepare them for reintegration into the community.
Mentorship
We believe in nurturing the potential of our youth. They benefit from mentorship programs and guidance to develop essential life skills.
Comprehensive Care
Our shelter provides round-the-clock supervision, a structured daily routine, transportation for school and appointments, and engaging focus groups.
Family Counseling
Family plays a vital role, and we offer family counseling to strengthen relationships.
Community Engagement
Our youth are encouraged to participate in recreational activities, community service projects, and enjoy nutritious meals through our food and personal care packages.
Individualized Plans
Each youth has a personalized service plan that guides their journey towards self-sufficiency.
A Friend’s House is the only runaway and homeless youth shelter in operation for those 17 and under in Orange County, N.Y.
Residents at A Friend’s House are encouraged to connect and express themselves through recreational activities including art.
Youth Outreach:
Extending a Helping Hand
Our Youth Outreach program is dedicated to identifying and connecting with young individuals facing crises, ensuring they receive the vital services they require. Our compassionate and specially trained staff take to the streets, engaging with youth that are in need of immediate assistance. Our primary objective is to provide them with a safe and comfortable space, typically at A Friend’s House, where they can feel secure.
Community Engagement
We venture into the community, reaching out to youth who might be facing difficult circumstances.
Shelter and Support
Our initial aim is to bring them to A Friend’s House, where they can find immediate shelter and support.
